DuPont to Expand Tyvek Production in Chesterfield RICHMOND--DuPont will invest $25.5 million to expand production of its Tyvek HomeWrap in Chesterfield County, creating 50 new jobs. Tyvek is a protective material made from very fine, high-density polyethylene fiber with characteristics of paper, film and fabric all in one. The material, used in home building, protective apparel, envelopes and packaging, is lightweight, vapor permeable, yet water-, chemical-, puncture-, tear- and abrasion-resistant. AES Building Bulgarian Power Plant ARLINGTON-AES Corporation has started construction on its first power plant in Bulgaria: a $1.4 billion, 670 Megawatt lignite-fired facility - the single largest foreign investment to date in the Balkan nation and the first large-scale power plant to be built there in more than 20 years. AMSEC Snags $318 Million Contract VIRGINIA BEACH--AMSEC LLC has been awarded a contract potentially worth $318 million over five years to support the U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in Charleston, S.C. Mountain Union Sold to Crown Castle for $309 Million ALEXANDRIA-Mountain Union Telecom has agreed to a purchase for $309 million by Houston-based Crown Castle International. Assets of the privately owned Mountain Union include 468 working cell towers plus 79 in various stages of development. The firm's sites are expected to generate $26 million in annualized rental revenue and $18.2 million in gross margin. Said Mountain Union CO David W. Weisman: "Since its inception in 1999, Mountain Union has focused on the acquisition and development of towers in well populated and difficult-to-zone areas where there is robust wireless carrier demand and activity." Online Resources Shells Out $180 Million for Princeton eCom CHANTILLY--Online Resources Corporation, a provider of Internet financial services, will acquire Princeton eCom Corporation, of Princeton, N.J., for $180 million cash with an earn-out of up to $10 million. The combined business will serve 2,200 financial institutions and 1,600 billers - more clients than any other bill payment processor - and process more than 200 million electronic payments transactions representing $75 billion in bill payments over the next year. Boeing Tests Blended Wing Body at NASA HAMPTON-The Phantom Works organization of Boeing has commenced wind tunnel testing in NASA Langley on the design of a futuristic aircraft called the blended wing body, or BWB. Designated the "X-48B," the aircraft is being developed as a flexible, long-range, high-capacity military aircraft. Said Dan Vicroy, NASA senior research engineer: "One big difference between this airplane and the traditional tube and wing aircraft is that -- instead of a conventional tail -- the blended wing body relies solely on multiple control surfaces on the wing for stability and control." Wahoo Research Finds Help for Cocaine Addiction CHARLOTTESVILLE - Researchers from the University of Virginia Health System have found that ondansetron, a serotonin antagonist drug, reduced cocaine's reinforcing effects in people who volunteered to be part of the study. These findings are the first to show the value of the drug in battling cocaine and its addictive qualities. Despite almost two decades of scientific effort, no medication has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of cocaine dependence. "These preliminary findings suggest that ondansetron, in combination with behavioral therapy, may offer a new alternative for treating cocaine addiction," says Nora D. Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. More. AEP Dedicates SW Virginia Transmission Line WYTHEVILLE--American Electric Power has dedicated its $306 million Wyoming-Jacksons Ferry 765-kilovolt transmission project, the largest electric transmission infrastructure project underway in the United States. The line will help meet growing energy demand in the region, and will enhance the reliability of the transmission grid. The 90-mile line uses a number of innovative technologies, including the first 765-kV six-bundle conductor configuration in North America, which reduces the audible noise level to half that of earlier lines. Appalachian Power Files for 25 Percent Rate Increase ROANOKE--Appalachian Power has filed a request today with the Virginia State Corporation Commission seeking approval for an increase of $198.5 million in customer rates.
