Strategic Planning Initiatives  

  • Led all aspects of re-election campaign- including but not limited to: public relations, advertising, crowd advance, photography, volunteer organization, get-out-the-vote, campaign brochures, media buys. Created a new campaign Web site for Congressman Boucher.

  • Organized fund-raising and public relations protocols for Emory and Henry College.

  • Developed a distinguished 21st Century News Center national and international Executive Board to design mission and assist in tactical fund-raising strategies. 

  • Initiated the first strategic plan for VCU’s School of Mass Communications. Coordinated academic and professional participants in the plan's construction.

 

Other Background  

  • Copy editor at the Richmond Times-Dispatch, a flagship newspaper of Media General Inc.

  • Led development the 21st Century News Center at Virginia Commonwealth University.  Initiated financial and strategic planning support from Media General Inc., Time Inc. and Ifra of Darmstadt, Germany.

  • Initiated a national survey on the future of journalism via Ketchum Public Relations Worldwide. Directed an advisory team from Ketchum, the Executive Board and the Associated Press Managing Editor s. The survey attracted national news coverage and won the Public Relations Society of America's Bronze Anvil for Research.

  • Restructured and invigorated the VCU mass communications education program. Managed 45 people, including full-and-part-time faculty, staff and graduate assistants. 

  • Initiated and launched two Web sites for VCU, in partnership with a commercial Web development company. Teamwork included content building, graphic design and marketing. The partnership resulted in top honors in a national Web design competition.

  • Developed continuing education programs for the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Richmond Jaycees and various state agencies.

 

Radio/Television  

  • Radio: Winner of national and state awards for investigative reporting, including the Society of Professional Journalists’ Distinguished Service Award for investigative journalism and a first-place national reporting award from the RTNDA. Worked as a reporter, editor and news anchor.

  • Television: Worked extensively in public television as a scriptwriter and on-air host for special programs.
